POST-APOCALYPTOOZA ONLINE!

Hi, Guys!

OKAY... so the Leo/Virgo Cuspalooza party is set for this Saturday. (Squee!!!).  We have 50 people RSVPed and another 20 maybes.  A whole bunch of "I'm not sure yets"...

If you can't make the party (and know me in "real" life) and want to be a part of it... we're ONLINE!  Dork moment...Firefly Quote: "Can't stop the signal!"  (Lol)

Ummm, yeah.  Soooo... Yahoo IM is: Apocalyptooza@yahoo.com.  The Name on the account is: Post Apocalyptooza.  This webcam is set up as part of "Mission Control" (aka my home office)... and it will be broadcasting from 7:30 pm until ???  We're encouraging our party-goers to take turns saying "Hi" online and interacting with whomever decides to be a part of the online fun... so we're hoping you join us!

We'll be trying to set up another IM/Webcam on the front deck of the house via laptop too.

Also, if you are attending - PLEASE remember to BYOB/Stuff.  We have a few pages of chips, ice, some sodas/lemonade/tea, some hamburgers, chicken legs, hot dogs, buns, carrots sticks & ranch, lots of ice, some coolers, and 3 bottles of wine.  That's it at this point.  Sooo... you want booze/beer/other stuff... bring some along!

PARKING:  Across from our house, our NICE neighbors have agreed to allow us to park cars between our road & their fenceline.  We'll park a few cars there so you guys can just follow suit.  Please DO NOT hit their nice purty metal fence!  Backing in is recommended 'cause people drive REALLY fast down our street!

Can't wait to see everyone!

Thanks!
-Amanda M. (& Jenn), the Hostesses!
(Ganked part of a post in the hopes to spread the word...)

[info]apocalypticbob is a great human being, and I'm honored to call her a friend, despite a great many miles between us (states actually)... but she is a hardworking, loving, creative and FUN person.  She is a single Mom and a substitute teacher...and she NEEDS OUR HELP!

She has found herself in a spot due to issues with her automobile. [info]rowangolightly is bringing this online community together to see what we can do to help. More than 30 people from Kansas City, Oklahoma, and DFW have contributed this awesome list of stuff to raise the needed funds to help out. (INCLUDING... lovely fairy wings by Mick Moreau and STEAMPUNK JEWELRY created by me).

Please check out the goods. There are some unique and wonderful things for sale. Many hand-crafted bits of goodness, some pamper yourself stuffus, costume-y bits, oddities and the like. If you're like far too many I know who are currently un- or under- employed, please repost instead. Publicity far and wide will make this venture an even bigger success. And people will end up with cool swag in the process. FTW!

Bidding is open until Thursday, August 20th at 1:00pm CST.

If you like what you've seen and wish to bid on an item, go here. This filter also contains several additions not available that the time of the original post. Each item is listed separately, with a pic, full description, and bidding rules.
Happy Birthday, Matt R! You rawk! Can't wait to help celebrate your b-day at the Leo-Virgo Apocalyptooza party in a couple more weeks! :~D

Call for assistance...(Edited)

I know everyone is hurting right now financially, and I feel really guilty posting this in light of the fact that I have so many friends out of work right now, but I would be doing myself a dis-service if I don't ask... does anyone want/need a maid or other services (legal! ~arches eyebrow~) that I can perform for a little extra spending money???  Anyone know where I could sell plasma? Anyone need simple bloomers/chemises/skirts/basic doublets for the upcoming faire season? Anyone want to buy one of my art pieces/vases?  Anyone want a pair of handcrafted Steampunk goggles for a good price?

(EDIT:  Email or call me - Tigerlady1974 at gmail dot com.   I usually charge $20-30 on goggles depending on style/adornment... the "base" goggles I've been using cost me around $9 before anything is done to them at all... add supplies, real leather details & labor... and you see why).  Steampunk jewelry is subjective, but I can craft small necklaces, bracelets, and pins for $8 to $20 each.  I need to know what kind of a character you're going for...mechanice/airship captain/doctor - whatever).  If you aren't in a huge hurry, I'll include shipping on them if you send me your shipping address.  I can take PayPal payments to: amanda@darkroomimages.net, but I actually prefer checks).

For basic chemises/bloomers/skirts I usually charge around $20-30 each (and I'll throw in the fabric/trim/lace out my stock if you aren't overly picky as I'm trying to use it up!)  I'll need basic measurements in order to sew though!

For maid services, I usually charge around $50 for two to three hours labor and bring my own supplies.  I've worked for a couple of folks that are here on LJ, so if you want a reference or two (ArbitorOfCool & Lys1022 have both used me as a maid before) - lemmee know.  I work hard (cat boxes, scrub floors, "spring" cleaning... whatever).
--------------------

I have three goals right now... all of which requires money I do not have within the next 30 days or so ...this is very SELFISH of me...but if you truly KNOW me - you know that I NEVER ask for anything for myself - ever.  I need these things for my sanity... what little I have left!  I have been bitten by the "Travel" bug in a way that is painful.  My gypsy spirit has clawed its way to the service, and I have got to get out and do a little traveling and do something for myself before I go mad.  I need money for the following:

1. money to pay for the towing of the Inceptor/Mad Max car to the Leo-Virgo Post-Apocalyptic party at my house on Aug. 22nd.  Yes, it's expensive... don't ask.  Don't tell me NOT to do it either... as I ask for very little & it's something I truly want - it's acutally the ~only~ thing I want for my birthday other than to have all my friends come and celebrate with us!  I've got photographers lined up and everything.

2. money to pay for a Victorian costume.  It's already being made, and the seamstress says she'll take payments, but I don't want to leave her hanging for long...it was something I've always needed for various venues, but I don't have the time & talent to make for myself.

3. money to go to DragonCon this year (Labor Day weekend) or a ride to Georgia... I can't afford a plane ticket unless someone has free miles they will throw my way.  I need $140 to contribute to a hotel room, and $100 for the ticket itself.  This is not a do-or-die thing, but I really enjoyed it last year and would like to go again and do the Steampunk thing again.

If anyone can help with any of these things or needs a very hard-working maid (me!) or errand runner or photographer or whatever, please let me know.  I"m pretty much only free on weekends to work.

"Take on the World" Pics are posted...

Jessi & I at her "Take on the World" Party... it was her b-day and her going away party. I snapped a handful of pics at the gathering.  She's going to teach in Africa starting this August.  We love you Jess!

Job Openings at a friend's company...

A friend of mine is looking for two people for their office... what I know is below:

1.  Receptionist (preferably bilingual - will consider a non bilingual with the right attitude and look) with a brain and computer skills. This position will be trained by me and will work for me.

2.  Operations Assistant.  I was asked if I knew anyone "like me" someone with organization skills and strong personality.  The Operations Manager is a great gal but she is just too nice and they someone to work FOR her but in tandem WITH her as she can't tell people what to do.

We are on Industrial close to the jail.  This is a warehouse with a large front office.  VERY VERY nice people.  No benefits. Family owned.  Please send resumes directly to me as this is not common knowledge.  We are hoping to bring in these two people quietly and without any hoopla.  I will be directing resumes for the Assistant position to my boss and he will set up those interviews.

If you want the email address... ask me!

My son & I celebrated Mother's Day on Monday - since we really couldn't be together on Sunday.  We watched Igor and ate dinner together on the couch cuddled up.

We had a few friends over for movie night again on Tuesday... it was a lot of fun as always - despite the dinner portion starting really late.  I love bonding with new people and that weird feeling that we've known each other forever even if it's actually only been for one faire season. :~D

Yesterday was fairly unremarkable except that I took two naps - I guess I'm more exhausted than I'll admit to myself.  I also seem to be re-aligning myself again as a "helping hub" - as more friends I haven't heard from in ages have called me in the last two days wanting small favors.  This happens from time to time because I'm connected to the who /what they need. I drift in and out of this status based upon my actions - if I'm out of the loop/playing hermit - I receive no calls.  If I put a little effort into it, I'm suddenly in the middle of it all again.   I like feeling like I"m part of the fabric of the universe that spreads little good deeds and improves things in small ways for people I know (or don't know).  This makes me happy and I feel useful again.

And with that knowledge... a statement:  I am truly intrigued by Burning Man.  An old cast member (Squeek) mentioned burning man my first year on cast - and it sounded really cool, but I wasn't at a good place in my life at that time (newly divorced with a baby).  Now, seven years later - Burning Man is looking like something I need to do - if not this year - then soon.  It happens around my 35th birthday.  (End of August).  I spent a huge chunk of time reading last night about surviving the event and how to be a part of it... and my mind kept throwing up limitations: tickets are too expensive, how could I survive the desert, could I go alone and would I want too if Mick doesn't want to do it, could I take off work several days?  And then despite all the negative things my rational mind kept throwing up,  I would have that indescribable feeling that it's something I'm ~meant~ to do for some reason I don't understand yet.  I try not "swim upstream" very often - and I've learned if something presents itself that you feel a true NEED to be a part of, then you should not defy that instinct...  so it's in my thoughts and dreams and we'll see how it processes out.

We'll see how that develops in the next couple months... or for next year.  I have this built-in need to challenge myself from time to time... my own little trip to *where-ever* and back to figure out who I am at this moment and place in my life.  I am feeling this need to do *something* again... and it's building up slowly.  This is actually a very good thing - a need to self-actualize and grow again and become whole.  :~D

Now, back to my "real" life.. .::rolls eyes:::  the mundane one, (which isn't as mundane as so many people's - I'm very fortunate, but I just really feel the call of the wild right now... it's not easy having troll blood in my veins...lol!   I have to make sure my son gets to school on time. :~D

Romance

http://www.pbase.com/paul42/image/111932149

I want to take a moment to write about someone that deserves so much praise that mere words just can not do him justice.    My husband.

This man amazes me every single day. His energy and talent are incredible.  He is sexy and fun and has the quickest wit!  He is strong, yet soft and understanding on levels that I have never seen in another man.

We all go through life and sometimes forget to tell those around us how much their connection and love means to us. We tend to live busy frantic lives and look up and realize that six months has passed and we have not heard from a certain person.  An old friend will cross your mind, and you think, "Wow, I wonder what happened to that person and I hope they are okay."  I try to take the time to send out positive energy to that person in that moment, and usually within a week or so - they contact me and tell me that they were thinking of me as well.  (We're all connected by energy and consciousness... but that is a blog for another time).

Right now, I am missing my husband greatly because our schedules are so nuts, we never seem to get to spend much time together.  Sometimes we don't even seem to remember to tell one another important things or experiences we've had. We also have radically different tastes in movies and activities.  We find ourselves somehow drawn to opposite sides of the house doing ~whatever~ interests us and not spending time together.  This happened again last night.  I was catching up things on the computer, and he was doing leather-working in the gaming area.    I found myself profoundly LONGING for him.

On the surface, this might appear to be an "unhealthy" thing - yet with the passing of time, we just seem to grow in Love and understanding of one another more and more.  There is enough that we have in common that we can do together to make things interesting.  We are both strong and independent - yet when we come together, rather than competing with one another, it instead feels like we can conquer all the slings and arrows that the world throws at us.  With our time apart, you would generally think that we would drift apart - instead it makes us long for one another like half your soul is missing and the only way to heal yourself is to gather your soul mate up in your arms and just hold them for the rest of the night.  It is like two powerful halves of a magnet that when pulled apart suddenly gather their combined attraction again and *Zoom* come together powerfully and the energy there is incredible.

Mick & I can both be very self-centered and egocentric at times, yet we can exhibit great giving towards one another as well.  Yesterday evening, he let me take a nap while I was exhausted after work.  While I slept, he made dinner and washed all the dishes.  It sounds minor, but it was a HUGE deal for me.  Those little sacrifices in order to make my life "just a little better."

I can't express what I feel towards Mick the way I truly want to.  It is impossible to sum a feeling "adequately."

I just want to say how much I love you and need you, My Knight!!  I love that we drift a little, and then fall so completely back into Love and Magic again and again.  You make me WHOLE.

Eternally,
Your Kitten
